Going Viral Is Luck. Partnerships Are the Plan: The Trust Problem, GTM Playbook, Faith as Your OS
Special Guest Bahigh AcunaRAUL HERNANDEZ OCHOA
Bahigh Acuna sits down with Nick Madden to break down the leg of a business most founders overlook: the go-to-market. As Spotify's first man on the ground in Mexico, Bahigh knocked on twenty brand doors with zero users until Coca-Cola became the launch partner, learned why a US agency cannot launch Latin America, and carried the playbook through Ancestry and Amazon. He also shares how a Catholic works with high integrity in secular tech, and why his faith is his operating system.
In this conversation, you'll hear about:
Trust before proof. — When brands asked how many users Spotify had in Mexico, the honest answer was zero. Eighteen or nineteen of twenty passed. Coca-Cola understood music, took the partnership, and the launch became what Bahigh calls the biggest in Spotify's history. His rule: know exactly what you give a big partner and what you get back, because "do you just pray to the algorithm God to be viral? You're leaving it to luck."
The empty chair and the press release. — Amazon keeps an empty chair in the room because "that empty chair represents the customer," and it starts new products by writing the press release first. Bahigh's own examples run the same way: at Spotify the launch customer was defined precisely (a music lover, 15 to 24, two concerts a month) before the other clusters followed, and at Amazon he went after the hardest customers instead of the low-hanging fruit, because if you crack it, then you won.
Faith as the operating system. — In San Francisco tech, a friend told him to "just manage yourself with high integrity," and his model is Arthur Brooks, whose listeners learn he is Catholic forty-five minutes into a podcast. Asked how his faith shapes his view of AI, he answered, "I think my Catholic faith is in my OS." It shows up in the habits too: gratitude before he opens his eyes, and handing the day to the Holy Spirit before he sleeps.
